About Me

I grew up in a small Canadian town on a big lake (Beaverton, Ontario not Beaverton, Oregon where NIKE is headquartered). My parents valued literature and creativity, and they surrounded me with love, books, and craft supplies. I found comfort in quiet days spent writing or making things (I still revel in days like that).

I knew I wanted to work in some kind of helping profession when I grew up. I also knew that I never wanted to grow up! After taking Introductory Psychology in university, I vowed to work hard and become a Child Psychologist. I completed my Bachelor of Science, Masters, and PhD degrees at the University of Toronto in Canada. After that I received specialized training in Neuroscience and Neurodevelopment. Now I work as a Clinical Pediatric Neuropsychologist who supports learning and other aspects of child development from a brain-based perspective. I have a special interest in ADHD and Learning Disabilities, particularly dyslexia. Neuropsychology lets me embrace my love of science and the brain. And it lets me think about how neuroplasticity–or the brain’s ability to change itself through experience–can be leveraged to help kids, teens, and their families.

I also write children’s books–a great reason for never growing up along with my Child Psychology gig! I am so grateful to publishers like Magination Press, the children’s imprint of the American Psychological Association. They encourage me to keep telling stories for kids while sharing ideas to support parents, caregivers, and teachers, too.
